AVAIN LABS® Coating Thickness Gauge With External Sensor EC-770SE

AVAIN LABS® Coating Thickness Gauge With External Sensor EC-770SE

The AVAIN LABS® Coating Thickness Gauge with External Sensor EC-770SE is a precision digital instrument designed for non-destructive measurement of coating and plating thickness on both ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates. It uses Magnetic Induction technology for ferrous materials and Eddy Current technology for non-ferrous materials, making it a versatile solution for industrial inspection, quality control, manufacturing, and laboratory applications.

With a measuring range of 0 to 2000 µm, the EC-770SE provides measurements in both µm and mil units and features memory storage for up to 320 data sets. Its external sensor design allows convenient measurement of coated surfaces with different shapes and geometries.

Key Features

Magnetic Induction & Eddy Current Measurement

The EC-770SE Coating Thickness Gauge automatically supports two widely used coating measurement principles:

Ferrous Substrates – Magnetic Induction:
Used for measuring non-magnetic coatings on ferrous metal substrates.

Non-Ferrous Substrates – Eddy Current:
Used for measuring non-conductive coatings or suitable coating systems on non-ferrous metal substrates.

This dual measurement capability makes the instrument suitable for inspecting a wide variety of coated metal surfaces.

Wide Measuring Range

The instrument provides a measuring range of 0 to 2000 µm, allowing it to be used for a broad range of coating thickness inspection applications.

The resolution is:

The specified accuracy is ±2.5% + 1 µm.

Calibration

The EC-770SE provides multiple calibration points to support measurement accuracy across different coating thicknesses. Calibration values include:

Zero – 50 – 100 – 250 – 500 – 1000 µm

This provides flexibility when calibrating the gauge for different measurement requirements.

Surface Measurement Capability

The minimum measuring area is Ø 6 mm, making the gauge suitable for relatively small coated areas.

The specified minimum curvature radius is:

The minimum substrate thickness is:

Data Memory

The built-in memory can store up to 320 data sets, making the EC-770SE useful for repeated inspections and quality-control applications where measurement records need to be retained.

Applications

The AVAIN LABS® EC-770SE Coating Thickness Gauge can be used for:
